- Model
204 Homegrown Tools
- Carlton
Wells, NYS DHCR
- Do
you write dozens of small adhoc PAI procedures?
Ever spent hours debugging an application procedure
only to discover that the error was in the adhoc
you used to check the data? Maybe you
could benefit from a collection of homegrown
tools. These tools can be as simple as a procedure
which combines eight steps into one or as complex
as a procedure generator which automatically writes
an adhoc PAI procedure based on criteria you provide
on a screen. Learn to become aware of opportunities
for developing your own tools, view some examples
of general purpose tools, and discover the many
benefits these tools can provide on a daily basis.

- Measure
Up or Stay LOCked in the Past: The Business of Function
Points
- Ron
Salvador, Moon Brook Hill
- Function
points are a measure of the size of computer applications
and the projects that build them. Size is measured
from a functional, or user, point of view. It is
independent of the computer language, methodology,
technology or project team capability. Function
points, unlike lines of code, can be used for economic
studies of software costs, including effort, staffing,
defect rates, production levels, and estimations.
Function points is by far the most widely utilized
software metric in the USA. This session will
explain what function points are and how they can
be used in your environment.

SOAP - XML processing for Model 204
- Sirius
Software
- XML
use for server-to-server processes in business transactions
on the web is rapidly growing. Over 34% of web developers
are using XML and XML-based e-commerce transactions
are expected to increase five-fold in the next 3
years. Standard Object Access Protocol (SOAP) has
been developed to set standards for the use of XML,
but generating, parsing and processing XML presents
new challenges for application development. Janus
SOAP makes it easier for the User Language programmer
to rapidly deploy XML/XSL applications and components
for "web services" architecture and other
interprocess transactions.
