System Performance and Tuning with V6R1
Target Audience: System Managers
Length: Full day (9:30am - 4:00pm)

You’ll hear a lot about the new performance-enhancing features of V6R1 at Insight 204, but do you want to fully explore these new features and learn how to get them working at your site? This full-day workshop explains how to identify performance problems in Model 204 and the host operating system. Lectures cover measuring and adjusting a Model 204 system using tuning techniques for both Model 204 and the operating system. In this class, you’ll learn how to:

v Minimize disk I/O using the Disk Buffer Monitor.

v Monitor Virtual Storage use.

v Ensure data integrity by monitoring the Record
    Locking Table.

v Accurately size the Resource Locking Table to avoid
      wasting memory and causingrequest cancellation.

v Monitor performance of Servers and CCASERVR.

v Achieve high performance Recovery.

 
File Performance and Tuning with V6R1

Target Audience: File Managers
Length: Full day (9:30am - 4:00pm)

If you’re responsible for managing Model 204 databases and want to be sure your files are designed and maintained for optimal performance and efficiency, then you won’t want to miss this full-day workshop. Designed for File or System Managers who have taken the File Design and Management (FM100) class or the Introduction to System Management (SM100) class, this workshop emphasizes the aspects of file design and creation that affect application performance at the file level. It focuses on reducing physical I/O to Tables A, B, C, and D through appropriate parameter settings and field descriptions. In this class, you’ll learn how to:

v Reduce physical I/O to Tables A, B, C, and D.

v Control the number of buffers by setting CCAIN
      parameters.

v Use groups to improve performance.

v Identify candidates for DASD Fast-Write.

v Monitor space utilization in Table B.
